More Books...

... to sit idly on my bookshelf! I recently received a RM120 voucher from MPH and put the vouchers to good use today at the MPH Book Sale held at the National Library. I allowed myself to become an impulse shopper and decided to buy whatever I fancied as long as it did not go beyond the RM120 voucher I had at hand. I also wanted to purchase books that I normally wouldn’t read, so these were the books I purchased:

The Economic Naturalist, Robert H. Frank
Me... read anything on economy? Ha ha ya right... But this book seemed interesting and not like the traditional economic books that you read in bed when counting sheep fails miserably.

The first page of this book made me laugh. I think I’ll like O’Farrell’s style of writing.

The Terror, Dan Simmons
Historical fiction based on a true story of a legendary 1845 Arctic expedition transforming it into a thriller. FYI, I’ve NEVER heard of Dan Simmons before and was so shocked when I went into his official site, the man has written A LOT OF BOOKS...

One Good Turn, Kate Atkinson
The front cover says it’s ‘a jolly murder mystery’ so that plus the book cover caught my eye. How can a murder mystery be jolly? It didn't occur to me when I was at the bookstore that Kate Atkinson is also the author of When Will There Be Good News?

The Long March, Sun Shuyun
The author of The Long March retraces the steps of the historical event in 1934 with detailed true accounts of the survivors.

The Book of Lost Things, John Connolly
This was the first book I saw when I went into the book sale. I thought the story of a boy suffering from the loss of his mother and finds solace in books quite interesting. More intriguing is the fact that the boy becomes confused between reality and fantasy.

If you’ve read any of the books listed and reviewed them, please share your review link with me. Would love to know what I’ll be getting myself into once I start reading them...

XOX, Tash.

Ms. Ulat Buku - I have read the Book of Lost Things and really enjoyed it. It's like... a much sinister, grown-up Alice in Wonderland. Full of adventure and excitement (and at times, really adult scary - in terms of what happens to children in real life) - it's only towards the end that I realized.. oh yeah, it's a good parable on how a child copes with loss. It doesn't hit you on the head about it. Enjoy!

The Atkinson book always attracted me so I think one day I will approach it more closely:P

I'm one of the few who didn't enjoy The Book of lost things that much. But go ahead, so many people loved it!

Thanks for the heads up on The Book of Lost Things. I dont know whether I'll like it yet but since Buddhaphish referred to it as a more sinister version of Alice in Wonderland, I might be able to read through this one. FYI, I didn't manage to finish Alice in Wonderland!
